One of the most frustrating things you can run into in League of Legends is a slimy ranged top laner looking to ruin your fun. Look no further, we here at botdiff.lol have all of the best Ranged Top Counters to get you through these annoying matchups.

1. Malphite – Best Ranged Top Counter

Starting off with the #1 ranged top counter, Malphite has just about everything you need built into his kit to shut these champs down. Few picks can handle ranged poke as safely and consistently as he can.

The biggest reason Malphite is such a strong answer is his passive shield, which lets him take chip damage without ever actually losing real health. Combine that with his Q + Comet poke, and he’s able to chunk out most ranged tops while speeding himself up to walk away before they can retaliate.

Once they are low enough, launch yourself with your ultimate and watch them explode. It’s simple, reliable, and incredibly annoying to play against.

For builds, I usually stay full tank. AP Malphite can bully harder early, but it falls off quickly and leaves you much less useful later in the game. Tank Malphite still punishes ranged tops early and scales way better into teamfights.

2. Sion

Sion handles annoying ranged top matchups by either catching and killing with his E → Q combo or by farming safely behind his W shield. He’s one of the few tanks who can actually threaten ranged champs early while still playing comfortably from a distance.

Your main strength in these lanes is how consistent Sion’s laning phase is. His W lets him soak poke and stack max health at the same time, giving him a stable matchup even against champs that normally bully melee picks off the wave. His ultimate also lets you cheat a recall after a bad trade or look for a surprise angle to punish overextended opponents.

There’s also the slightly less optimal but way more fun option of proxying behind tower when the matchup gets rough. Against champs like Cassiopeia, sneaking behind the wave to farm can completely dodge their pressure. It’s not something I’d recommend to beginners, but when it works, it feels amazing.

I usually run a greedier build on Sion, starting Heartsteel and then grabbing one of the Bami’s Cinder upgrades depending on the matchup. It scales hard and fits the playstyle perfectly.

3. Irelia

Unlike Malphite and Sion, who sustain and look for engages on overextended ranged laners, Irelia is a champion who actively looks to kill these matchups from level one. She doesn’t wait for a mistake; she forces the fight making her one of the most coinflip ranged top counter.

Her Q gives her great sustain, and once her passive is stacked, any ranged champ who lets her get on top of them is basically doomed. Irelia’s entire kit is built to stick. E for the stun, Q for constant gap closing, and her ultimate to slow and lock opponents in place long enough to finish the job.

I usually build Blade of the Ruined King into Plated Steelcaps to make your sustain and sticking power almost impossible to deal with. Irelia turns ranged lanes from poke fests into actual fights, and more often than not, she’s the one coming out on top.

4. Yorick – Split Push Ranged Top Counter

Yorick’s kit makes any ranged top laner groan the second they see him locked in. For ranged champs without reliable dashes, the matchup becomes miserable fast. Once Yorick drops his cage, the fight is basically over before it starts.

His Q gives him easy sustain and strong wave control thanks to his ghouls, and his E is a simple but effective ranged slow that lets him trade safely from distance. More importantly, it sets up the perfect angle to drop his W and trap ranged laners who can’t escape. Once they’re stuck in that cage, Yorick and his minions do the rest.

Into ranged opponents, I almost always rush Hullbreaker, especially against champs with weak waveclear. It lets you apply nonstop pressure and turn the lane into a split push nightmare for the enemy team. Just watch out for ganks — Yorick can dominate 1v1, but he’s not getting out of a 1v3.

Ranged top laners can feel oppressive, but they’re far from unbeatable. Champs like Malphite and Sion handle them with consistency and durability, Irelia punishes them with early all-in threat, and Yorick shuts them down with sheer lane control and pressure.
